To help you get the most out of your Rainbow Communications services, we answer your FAQs below so you can troubleshoot your issue and get back to surfing, talking, and watching!

Have a question that you don’t see listed below? Contact us and we’ll get you an answer.

Billing

Bills are due on the 15th of each month.

Services are billed for the month ahead with the exception of long distance and Pay-Per-View charges, which are billed for charges from the previous month.

For example, an October 1st bill will include October’s phone, Internet, and TV service charges, plus the long distance and Pay-Per-View purchases accrued during September’s billing cycle.

Customers will receive their bill on or around the 1st of each month.

Digital TV

Yes. A set-top box, also called a receiver, is required for each TV. Our Digital TV service must be delivered through a receiver in order for you to receive our HD programming.

If you are an existing Rainbow TV customer and you do not have a set-top box, then you are not receiving all of the channels you are paying for! Call us today at 800-892-0163 to update your service plan.

Local channels are included in all of our Digital TV packages. Check out the channel lineup for your community.

And be sure to check out our truly local channel – Rainbow NEK!

Rainbow NEK, which can be found on channel 68 in SD and channel 268 in HD, includes locally produced content from our surrounding communities.

That means the guide is waiting for the programming content information to load. This process can take up to two hours. However, you can still watch TV while it loads.

Believe it or not, twice a year at the Spring and Fall Equinox, satellite sites in the Northern Hemisphere experience reception interruptions due to the transition of the sun. Reception interruptions span a period of about 10 days as the sun aligns directly above the satellite and the antenna. This affects any channel that is received via satellite and causes a signal reception outage depending on which satellite the sun is aligned with. That is why some channels will experience an outage while others will remain on. The outages usually occur between 12-4 p.m. and last less than 10 minutes, but they can be intermittent and last up to 30 minutes or longer.

Customers can record up to 40 hours of high-definition (HD) and up to 125 hours of standard-definition (SD) programming.

Closed captioning settings are controlled on your TV remote, not your cable remote. Instructions on changing the setting will vary depending on the model of TV you own.

If your TV has a “Menu” button, press that to check for the closed captioning options there. Or refer to the TV’s user guide for more information.

Your remote's Guide setting might need to be adjusted.

Check the guide setting on your remote to make sure the guide displays All Channels. To get to All Channels, you need to keep pressing the Guide button on your remote until it appears. Depending on what features you already have set up on your TV service (parental controls, HDs only, etc.), you might have to press the Guide button several times before it displays All Channels.

First check to be sure the remote is on the CABLE/STB function. If that doesn’t work, replace the batteries in your remote.

Here is a diagram of our most recent remote:

If you are only able to access channels 2 through 13 on your TV, it is likely because your television is on its ANTENNA or UHF setting, which can’t tune to all of the channels Rainbow offers.

To change this, go to the menu settings on your TV. You should have the option to use CABLE, CATV, or STD depending on the brand and model. Set the TV to CABLE/CATV/STD and then check to see if you can access more channels.

If there is no change, you may need to do a Channel Scan on your TV so it can “learn” which channels are available to you. Please consult your TV manual to see how this is done on your TV.

HD-DVR’s have a dual-tuner, so you can record two programs at one time.

If you want to watch TV while two shows are recording, you either have to watch one of the shows that is being recorded or watch something that has already been recorded.

In order to receive HD programming, you must have all of the following:

  • An HD-Ready TV
  • Rainbow’s HD Programming (We updated our system in 2012 to a new Digital platform and New IPTV platform. If you are on the old Analog or old IP programming, you will have limited HD channels.)
  • A Rainbow HD Receiver or HD-DVR Receiver

High-Speed Internet

A firewall is a program or a device that blocks unauthorized access to your computer(s)/network, such as viruses, identity thieves, and hackers. Companies also use firewalls to control employee connections to the Internet and information being transmitted from their computers and network. In a nutshell, a firewall is like a computerized security dog that watches incoming and outgoing traffic and decides whether to allow a connection/interaction or not.

There are several different types of firewalls and they all do the same thing: protect your computer from intruders. So, it's very important to keep your computers firewall turned on and have an active antivirus program like MySecurity.

To learn how to turn your firewall on or off on a Windows computer, check out Microsoft’s how-to guide.

Most routers have instructions on the manufacturer’s website that will explain how to set router passwords.

If you are renting a router from Rainbow, follow the links below for instructions on password protecting your router:

If you are renting a router from Rainbow but it is not one of the models listed above, then you are probably using an outdated router that should be replaced. As technology changes, older models have slower connection speeds and can cause issues with Internet delivery.

For more information, contact a Rainbow Customer Service Representative at 800-892-0163.

Password protecting your Internet connection is a good precaution to take.

For starters, password protection helps eliminate the possibility of hackers accessing your system and prevents unwanted file sharing. If you don’t have a password set up for your router, hackers can use your connection for illegal activity, which would register on your IP address.

Also, without password protection, anyone close enough to get your signal could access your Internet, causing your devices to run slower.

Providing customers with the best Internet service possible is our goal. However, Internet performance may vary due to conditions outside of our network control. Therefore, no minimum level of speed is guaranteed.

Conditions affecting speed may include: customer location, physical equipment limitations, network congestion, server or router speeds of websites accessed, inside wiring or telephone conditions.

Check your connection speed

Having multiple devices (computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, smart TVs, Blu-ray players, video game consoles and streaming set-top boxes) in daily use by several family members can easily max out your Internet service and make it seem like it’s running slow.

For help determining which Internet plan is right for your household, check out our blog of give us a call at 800-892-0163.

Cordless phones are susceptible to lightning and can get damaged during thunderstorms. If you experience an issue with a cordless phone, test your phones to find the faulty phone(s).

Unplug all your cordless phones and keep a corded phone plugged in. If the line works once all the cordless phones are unplugged, start plugging in one corded phone at a time to test them.

Rainbow MyTV

To get started with Rainbow MyTV you will need:

  • 15 Mbps or higher Rainbow Internet service
  • A Roku box (2 or 3) or a Roku streaming stick
  • An active Roku account

Step 1: Install your Roku device

Plug in the device to the HDMI port on your TV and power up all the components (Roku remote control, Roku device, TV). Then connect to Internet. (We recommend using an Ethernet connection, but WiFi will work, too.) Roku will automatically update the software and reboot the system. Once it comes back online, follow the onscreen instructions to create a Roku account. (Roku will ask for payment information for adding services like Hulu and Netflix.)

Step 2: Activate Rainbow MyTV

First, you will need to add the Rainbow MyTV channel to your Roku device.

  1.  Log in to your Roku account
  2.   Browse to https://my.roku.com/account/add
  3.  Enter "RainbowMyTV" into the "Channel Access Code" box
  4.  Click "Add Channel"

Then, call Rainbow Communications at 800-892-0163 to activate your Rainbow MyTV service.

Step 3: Enjoy!

You now have access to your local broadcast channels through your Rainbow High Speed Internet connection!

Rainbow NEK

Rainbow NEK is a truly local channel that features coverage of local events and happenings on Channel 68 (SD) and Channel 268 (HD). It is your go-to source for all the action in Northeast Kansas, including special events, high school sports, church services, and much more. Plus, it features content produced by viewers like you!

Rainbow NEK VOD

Rainbow NEK VOD provides convenient access to local events and happenings that air on Rainbow NEK’s local content channels: 68 (SD) and 268 (HD). All you need is a high-speed Internet connection to view Rainbow NEK’s videos on demand content.

WatchTVEverywhere

WatchTVEverywhere is a streaming service, but it is different from other services out there.

WatchTVEverywhere:

  • Is FREE! There is no extra charge to use it. You just need to have a subscription to the network you want to watch.
  • Includes live TV. For example, WatchTVEverywhere has included more than 2,000 hours of live Olympics coverage in the past, whereas other streaming services only provide previously recorded shows.
  • Has full episodes of current TV shows. For example, the episodes of The Closer or Leverage on TNT are available within days of their premiere on TNT.

Nothing!

At this time, there is no extra cost for WatchTVEverywhere, so Rainbow customers can explore for free. You only need to be a subscriber to the TV network and nothing on the site will result in an extra cost to you. However, you may be subject to data charges from your cellular carrier based on use and plans.

(Note: Pricing is subject to change over time depending on the requirements made by individual TV networks.)

The answer is: just about Everywhere.

WatchTVEverywhere works anywhere you can receive an Internet signal: inside your house, at the office, shopping mall, hotel, airport, vacation home, etc.

Wired connections and in-home WiFi will provide the best quality. The quality of WatchTVEverywhere signals while roaming (such as in airports, stores, etc.) will vary depending on the strength of the signal.

Be extra careful when you travel, especially outside the United States, because data roaming charges may apply and they can be very expensive.

Different networks make different programs available at different times. Each TV network makes their own decision about what to make available on Watch TVEverywhere. For example, the live feed of CNN is available. The live feed of TBS is not available, however TBS offers full episodes of their popular programs.

TV networks don't necessarily own all of the rights to all of the programs they transmit.

For example, a TV network may have the right to broadcast a movie, but only to TV sets and not to digital platforms like WatchTVEverywhere. So, available programming is determined on a case-by-case basis depending on the TV network, the specific program, and the broadcast rights.

Yes. We are working with many different program providers to expand the number of networks and the number of programs available on WatchTVEverywhere. Registered users can see the complete list of available networks on the website. The list is automatically updated when new networks and programs are added.

It is easy to start using WatchTVEverywhere. The first step is to register online.

To register:

  • Visit watchtveverywhere.com
  • Along the top, click the drop down menu to select your TV provider. Select “Rainbow Communications”

  • This will refresh the main landing page and show navigation options along the top. Click "Register."
  • The registration page will appear. Enter your account number, last name as it appears on your monthly statement, and type in the verification code that is on the registration screen. On the registration page you will also create your account by typing in your first name, last name, password, password reset question, password reset answer and email address. Once the entire screen is filled out, click the “Register” button.

  • A screen will appear that verifies you are 18 years or older and consenting to create the account. Click the “Create Account” button.

  • Next, check the email address you provided. You will find an email message with your WatchTVEverywhere activation link. Click on the link to complete the registration process. Once you click on the activation link it will direct you back to Rainbow’s WatchTVEverywhere page and a message will appear saying, “Your account is now activated.”
  • Now when you visit watchtveverywhere.com, you will click the navigation item to "Log In." Enter your email and password. You will be directed to a page showing network logos. Find the network you would like to watch and click on its logo.

  • Depending on the network, it will either take you directly to the site to start watching TV, or you might have to verify once again that you are a Rainbow Communications customer by selecting your TV provider and typing in your WatchTVEverywhere email and password. Typically, you only have to verify each network on each device one time.

That's it! Now you can begin to enjoy WatchTVEverywhere.

It is important that you keep your username and password confidential. Use of your credentials by others will result in loss of WatchTVEverywhere privileges.

Once you are registered, you can watch any WatchTVEverywhere program as long as you are a subscriber to that network. For example, you must be an HBO subscriber to watch HBO's WatchTVEverywhere programs.

Almost all WatchTVEverywhere programs are available on PC, laptop, iPad, iPhone and Android smartphones. Several TV Networks are also now available on Apple TV, Roku, and XBox. However, some TV networks have not made their programs available on all devices. Visit your device's app store and search by the network name for available applications.

There is no limit to the number of devices you can use. However, TV networks may limit the number you can use to access their content at the same time.

It might. Check your data plan before you start watching WatchTVEverywhere on a smartphone or wireless network.

WatchTVEverywhere programs transmit a lot of data, which can become expensive if you have a limited data plan.

Rainbow Communications has no way of knowing when you have exceeded your data plan. You are responsible for all of the charges made by your mobile carrier.

To WatchTVEverywhere:

  • Visit www.WatchTVEverywhere.com
  • Click Log In
  • Enter your usemame and password
  • Select the TV Network you want to watch
  • Click on the network to see a list of available programs
  • Select your program and start watching!

You can also:

  • Go directly to the network's webpage on an Internet browser to watch. (You will need to sign in with your WatchTVEverywhere username and password on their webpage.)
  • Use the network's app to watch their programming. Simply go to the app store for your device and download apps for the networks you want to watch. When you open the app, select "Rainbow Communications" as your TV provider. This will take you to a login screen. Enter your WatchTVEverywhere email and password. Once you’re logged in, you can watch TV!
