Red White & Blue Crafts

Fireworks Painting

Supplies Needed:

  • 7 plastic drinking straws (the kind that can be “L” shaped)
  • White paper
  • Red paint
  • Blue paint
  • 2 paper plates
  • Tape

Directions:

  1. Stretch out the straws as far as they can go.  You want the straw to be “L” shaped.
  2. Group the 7 straws together so that the L-shapes of the straws are facing outwards (like a firework shape).  Tape the straws together just below the L-shape and at the bottom of the straws.
  3. Squirt blue paint on one paper plate and then squirt red paint on another paper plate.
  4. Dip the straw into the blue paint and then stamp it on the paper about 3-4 times in different areas.
  5. Dip the straw into the red paint and stamp it on the paper on each blue stamp.
  6. Let the masterpiece dry and then display proudly on the fridge!

Fireworks in a Jar

Supplies Needed:

  • Glass jar or vase
  • Water
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring
  • Measuring cup/small bowl
  • Fork/whisk

Directions:

  1. Fill your glass container almost to the top with water.
  2. Pour 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in the measuring cup/small bowl.
  3. Add 2 drops of red food coloring and 2 drops of blue food coloring to the vegetable oil.
  4. Grab your fork/whisk and use it until you get tiny droplets of food coloring.
  5. Once the tiny food coloring droplets appear, pour the vegetable oil mixture into the container of water. The oil drops will immediately go toward the bottom of the jar but will come back to the surface. Soon the food coloring droplets will drop down into the water.
  6. Sit back and enjoy your fireworks show!

Rocket Firework

Supplies Needed:

  • Toilet paper roll
  • Colored construction paper (two different colors)
  • Tissue paper (red, orange, yellow)
  • Tin foil
  • Stick
  • Glue stick
  • Pencil
  • Mug
  • Scissors
  • Stapler

Directions:

  1. Grab your toilet paper roll and piece of construction paper. Roll one piece of construction paper over the toilet roll with a little bit of an overlap. You will more than likely have to trim your construction paper to fit the roll.
  2. Once the construction paper is the right size, glue it to the toilet roll.
  3. Grab your other colored piece of construction paper and draw a circle around the mug.
  4. Cut the circle out.
  5. Cut the circle in half to create a semi-circle.
  6. Put glue along of the straight edge of the semi-circle.
  7. Fold the semi-circle to form a cone. It will need to be sized to fit the toilet paper roll. Once sized, put two long pieces of tape on the side of the cone.
  8. Stick the cone to the toilet paper roll. The tape should be inside the cone and inside the toilet paper roll.
  9. Grab your tin foil and make 3 circles, about the size of a quarter.
  10. Glue the tin foil circles to the rocket in a vertical line.
  11. Grab your tissue paper and cut jagged edges on the end of the tissue paper, making it look like flames.
  12. Staple/tape the flames together
  13. Tape the flames inside the bottom of the rocket
  14. Tape a stick inside the bottom of the rocket.
  15. Prepare for blastoff!
