Why am I not getting my advertised speeds on my Wi-Fi network?
Your advertised internet speed is based on a direct connection from the modem to your device (computer, laptop, gaming console, etc). Your Wi-Fi network, also known as your wireless network, will vary on speed performance based on several factors.
Factors that result in your overall wireless network include (but are not limited to):
- Interference with other wireless devices (Number of active devices on your network)
- Amount of bandwidth being used by others on your wireless network (Bandwidth usage the other devices are doing and number of users doing each activity)
- Physical obstructions
- Walls
- Doors
- Floors
- Furniture
- Appliances
In addition to the factors listed above, your device also plays a big role in your overall internet experience. Some devices cannot support today’s speeds which will slow down the wireless network for all other devices in your home. Most routers will slow down to the speed of your slowest device.
